Thank you to those of you who came on Thursday!
If you missed it, worry not! Here's a digest of everything we talked about!
1) WELCOME TO JUST DESSERTS!
2) Officer Introductions: Amanda [President], Kathy [Vice President], Petrina [Treasurer], Connie [Secretary]
3) Membership: Free Members can attend all non-baking session meetings [more on that later]; Paid Members can attend all meetings by paying a $5 per semester fee. This means that at the beginning of every semester, you will have to renew your paid membership by paying $5. [It's also up to you whether or not you want to renew your membership during Semester 2. You'll just be a free member.]
4) Meetings will generally be on Wednesdays after school, however some days may be different, as we try to work together with our advisor's schedule.
5) During the span of two weeks, the first week, we'll have what's called a 'demo meeting'. A demo meeting is when all members [both free and paid] can come and watch the JD officers do a live demonstration of our next recipe. We'll be explaining exactly how to move through the recipe and any other details you should know about that baked good. The second week, we'll have a 'baking session', where
only paid members can attend. During the baking session, paid members will finally be able to come in and do hands-on what we had demonstrated the week before. All ingredients and supplies are provided, so all you need to bring is ENTHUSIASM!
6) Common Sense Safety: means exactly what it says. Please, when you are in the kitchens, do not do stupid things like touch the stove while it's hot or stick your head in the oven. IT'S NOT SAFE! Some examples of basic safety YOU SHOULD KNOW: use potholders to handle things you'll put/take out of the oven; tie back long hair; remove dangling clothing [ie. scarves, long jewerly] b/c you don't want them to be hovering over the oven when you're taking stuff out of there; roll back long sleeves; when taking out pans from the oven, DO NOT place them on the counter [the counter will be damaged from the high heat!] and instead, put them on the stovetop [provided the stovetop is off and not in use].
7) Sanitation and Clean Up: again, this is all self-explanatory. Always wash your hands before working on something. Don't sneeze on your hand and touch food that you'll eat. After you are finished using the supplies [ie. pans, spatulas, etc] please wash them thoroughly! That means, using soap and scrubbing off any stuck-on food! These are not our equipment, so we have to treat them nicely!
8) When paid members come in for the baking session, please split into groups of 5 [not 6, not 7. Any groups with less than 5 people are fine however.] and we'll assign your group to a kitchen. Why is the maximum 5? Simple, it's a fire hazard if you have any more. Also, [although this should be common sense to you] please switch off the jobs in your group so that everyone can have a chance to mix the batter or clean the dishes. No one likes to be stuck doing the dirty work so mix it up!
Okay! With that all said, our next meeting will most likely be on Wednesday, October 8. [It could change so please check your emails for updates!] On that day, we'll show you how to make snickerdoodle cookies! The following week, we'll have you paid members out there come in and try it out yourself!
One last thing, if you didn't come on Thursday, it's no big! You can still join the club! And if you didn't pay on Thursday but you want to be a paid member, just bring it in our next meeting!
Alrighty! That is all for today. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! Thanks again for taking your time to read this super long message. Until next time~!
