Welcome To Just Desserts~!

What exactly is Just Desserts you ask? Well, rather than telling you what it is, let's tell you what we do!

Just Desserts is welcome to all bakers and dessert-lovers! A club passed just last December, we gather to show you the world of baking and you'll even have the chance to make your own dessert!

Our meetings are not generally set for a fixed day of the week [ie. every Tuesday] so please listen to the morning announcements, or if we have your email, we'll update you before a meeting. [You can also check here for notices.] So, please if we do not have your email as of yet, reply to this post with your email and we'll keep in touch. Comments will be screened so you won't have strange stalkers on your tail. (^u^)

Meetings will always be held in N-8 after school. If you happen to not make it that day, don't worry. We'll send out another email to let you know what happened! [And if you're curious, our club advisor is the lovely Chef Mochetti!]

Here at [info]bakedpassion, check for updates on the next meeting or look back at old recipes we've done!

Now get going and enjoy all that is Just Desserts!

Notice: Just Desserts Meeting #8 2.20.09

[To save time, this is pretty much the same thing I put in the emails, so if you recieved our email, you don't have to read this 'cause there won't be anything new. :D]

HELLO MEMBERS! Miss us?

FEAR NOT! Our next meeting will be...:

1) at Luna's house! Her address:

2888 Alice Ct.
Fremont, CA 94539
Earth, The Solar System, The Milky Way, The Universe

[And yes, that's me trying to be funny.]

2) on February 20 [Friday].

3) after school, just meet at Luna's house by, let's say...3-ish?

4) all about PIZZA. We're all going to make pizzas! Cute little individual ones about the size of a pie, with any topping you like [though, you may want to email back suggestions so we know what to get].

5) only the baking session, with a short demonstration.

6) without Chef Moschetti [She's still busy this month but we figure you guys have waited long enough]

7) paid members only, blah blah blah. You know the drill~

That said, any questions?

Hope to see you there! By the way, if you want to come, please email back so we know how many people are coming. If there's WAY too many people we may have to make a limit and do something so that it's fair. Luna's house can only hold so many people.

Bring one medium-large-ish bowl with you when you come! You'll be using it for making the pizza dough. [Luna doesn't have enough bowls at her house but it's okay if you don't have one, we're bringing a few from N-8 but if you have one, please bring it!]

Recap: Just Desserts Meeting #5: 11.18.08

Few things [I'm going to list them because lists are nice. :D]:

1) I'm glad people who are coming to our meetings are becoming 'regulars'! I'm also glad there aren't many people only because then I can remember your names [and it's nice when people remember your names right? Right.]

2) We just made pumpkin spice cookies today! YAY! And the recipe will be here as well so you can come back to reference if you want to make more for Thanksgiving. ^u^

3) Our meetings will most likely now be pushed to 3:15-ish [starting time] to let Chef Moschetti have more time to make the commute from Kennedy to Mission. And since most of you come in around 2:40, you can either bring your homework [or whatever else you want to do that makes you happy] and do that until then or you can just hang around someplace else and come in at 3:15. Whatever you decide to do, Mr. Boegman will almost always be in N-8 during the time Chef M. is driving there so the door will be open!

4) Whenever we have baking sessions, sometimes the batches might be a bit big for your group. So if you have any extras, you can just give some to Mr. Boegman [he's not the type of person you have to ask if he wants some cookies. you can just give it to him. ;D] or to us officers! Of course, you can always keep the whole thing to yourselves, this is just if you have like, 60 cookies... O.o

5) Thanks to all of you who come regularly and cleaning up so nicely! Keep up the nice work~!

6) There isn't any scheduled next meeting so just hang tight and have a great THANKSGIVING BREAK.

Until next time~!

Recap: Just Desserts Meeting #3: 10.24.08

Recap! Not much of one really, but here it is:

Snickerdoodles!

That's it. Haha. Just kidding. There are a few other notes I'd like to mention/remind:

=Let's all get along okay? Work together with your group even if they are people you don't know. [Which is much the case last Friday, considering not too many people came meaning we had to lump people together.] Switch jobs: don't hog all the fun stuff and leave the rest for someone else to do.

=REMEMBER your common sense! When things JUST come out of the oven, don't take it off the pan or touch it! Freshly baked things need time to cool! As much as it is hard to believe, there are still important things happening during the cooling process!

=Our meetings do not have a set time that we will leave. This is because we never know how long we might spend on that particular project. If we make cakes, that might take longer than cookies or whatnot. But if you don't want to spend your entire Friday afternoon there, work faster! In some cases, that's not really possible. But don't spend forever measuring the ingredients [it's important of course, but you don't need to make it so exact that it'll take 10 minutes just to measure a cup of flour.] or something like that. The faster you guys work, the faster you can eat whatever you're making. :D [That isn't to say you should rush through everything though. Haste makes waste.]

All righty. That's 'bout it. There's no planned next meeting as of yet so we'll contact you if any new info pops up. Enjoy your All Hallow's Eve!

NOTICE: CHANGE OF DATE FOR 10.22.08 MEETING

SO SORRY. But the date has been changed to Friday, October 24! So to clarify, the snickerdoodle baking session meeting will now be held on Friday but it's still the same place, same time. The reason is because something came up in Chef Moschetti's schedule that she couldn't put off so she could not make it today. And there was no other instructor that could watch us. So we have moved this meeting to Friday! [Yes, I said that 10 times but I'm making sure you all got the message.] Very sorry for the change!

Also this Saturday is Make a Difference Day! Details:

Make a Difference Day @ MSJHS

    Sat. 10/25, 8 am12 noon

Clean up the campus and make up to $200

For your campus club or organization!

           Here’s how:

q       Mission Possible will donate $15 per student/parent hour worked during the Make A Difference campus cleanup 10/25 to a max of $200 per group.

q       Volunteers must sign-in at the horseshoe on Saturday to receive tools and instructions

q       Volunteers are asked to commit a minimum, of 1 hour volunteer time but are encouraged to stay for the entire 4 hr work day.

q       Projects will include gardening, campus wide trash pick-up, creek clean-up, sweeping etc.

q       Questions? Contact Jeanine Bickett (510) 552-1716 cell OR

                            Jbickett1@yahoo.com

So think about it! You can earn money for the club AND get hours! Win-win right? And it's fun-er to do it with a friend so if you plan on going, you should bring someone with you! [I know that from last year. Doing it by yourself or people you don't know is quite boring.] :D

Notice: Just Desserts Meeting #3: 10.22.08

Okay everybody! Are you ready to make snickerdoodles?? Then come to N-8 after school at 3 on Wednesday, October 22! Yes, that is next week. Not this week. Again, as I said before, we're trying to adjust to Chef Moschetti's schedule.

Some things you should remember:

1) If you haven't paid your $5 yet, and you want to come, you can still pay at the door next Wednesday.
2) Everything is provided. Just bring yourself. ^u^
3) Don't forget to use your common sense during the meeting! That means: no touching the HOT oven, follow instructions, keep your hair tied back if it's long, wash your hands, etc. You guys should know these things right? I don't have to tell you guys not to burn yourself.
4) Give some thought as to whose group you want to be in. The maximum is 5 people per kitchen, no exceptions. [And believe me, you won't want more than 5. It's way too crowded and you can't do anything without bumping into someone!] You can have less if you want though. If you're not sure whose group you want to be in, just wait 'till next Wednesday and we'll see what we can do.

That is it! See ya next Wednesday and check back here after the next meeting for the snickerdoodle recipe!

Ciao~

Recap: Just Desserts Meeting #2: 10.8.08

Not much of a recap this time around, but here it is~

So if you attended Wednesday's meeting, you got a taste of what you'll be baking next: the snickerdoodle! You also saw the steps to achieve the final cookie via demonstration. We also took new members' info [via sign up sheet] and anyone who had their $5 paid membership fee.

Things to note:
= The snickerdoodle recipe will be posted here after the next meeting so you guys can make them for yourselves!
= The next meeting will be on Wednesday, October 22. Only paid members are allowed to bake so if you haven't paid yet and you want to go, please bring your money on that day! We will still accept it! [Excuse the large gap between the recent demonstration meeting and the baking session meeting. We try to adjust to Chef Moschetti's schedule, and she's not free the whole of next week.]

That's all for now, folks!

Hi guys! This is it! The first demo-meeting of the year! We'll be demonstrating how to make a snickerdoodle cookie so make sure you come! Just a few things I should mention:

1) All members are welcome for the demonstration meeting. When we have our baking session, you must be a paid member to attend.

2) If you have not paid for your paid membership yet, please remember to bring your $5 on Wednesday, October 8 so that you have the privilege of coming to bake on the following week.

3) Samples of snickerdoodle cookies will be passed out! Yum! :9

4) The meeting will be in the same place, same time. N-8. After school at 3.

By the way, thanks to all the people who helped me decipher all the emails that I was missing in the list! It helped a lot! YES! We've finally gotten EVERYONE on the email list! THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I feel so accomplished now! Again, thank you!

Any questions?

Recap: Just Desserts Meeting #1: 9.18.08

Thank you to those of you who came on Thursday!

If you missed it, worry not! Here's a digest of everything we talked about!

1) WELCOME TO JUST DESSERTS!

2) Officer Introductions: Amanda [President], Kathy [Vice President], Petrina [Treasurer], Connie [Secretary]

3) Membership: Free Members can attend all non-baking session meetings [more on that later]; Paid Members can attend all meetings by paying a $5 per semester fee. This means that at the beginning of every semester, you will have to renew your paid membership by paying $5. [It's also up to you whether or not you want to renew your membership during Semester 2. You'll just be a free member.]

4) Meetings will generally be on Wednesdays after school, however some days may be different, as we try to work together with our advisor's schedule.

5) During the span of two weeks, the first week, we'll have what's called a 'demo meeting'. A demo meeting is when all members [both free and paid] can come and watch the JD officers do a live demonstration of our next recipe. We'll be explaining exactly how to move through the recipe and any other details you should know about that baked good. The second week, we'll have a 'baking session', where only paid members can attend. During the baking session, paid members will finally be able to come in and do hands-on what we had demonstrated the week before. All ingredients and supplies are provided, so all you need to bring is ENTHUSIASM!

6) Common Sense Safety: means exactly what it says. Please, when you are in the kitchens, do not do stupid things like touch the stove while it's hot or stick your head in the oven. IT'S NOT SAFE! Some examples of basic safety YOU SHOULD KNOW: use potholders to handle things you'll put/take out of the oven; tie back long hair; remove dangling clothing [ie. scarves, long jewerly] b/c you don't want them to be hovering over the oven when you're taking stuff out of there; roll back long sleeves; when taking out pans from the oven, DO NOT place them on the counter [the counter will be damaged from the high heat!] and instead, put them on the stovetop [provided the stovetop is off and not in use].

7) Sanitation and Clean Up: again, this is all self-explanatory. Always wash your hands before working on something. Don't sneeze on your hand and touch food that you'll eat. After you are finished using the supplies [ie. pans, spatulas, etc] please wash them thoroughly! That means, using soap and scrubbing off any stuck-on food! These are not our equipment, so we have to treat them nicely!

8) When paid members come in for the baking session, please split into groups of 5 [not 6, not 7. Any groups with less than 5 people are fine however.] and we'll assign your group to a kitchen. Why is the maximum 5? Simple, it's a fire hazard if you have any more. Also, [although this should be common sense to you] please switch off the jobs in your group so that everyone can have a chance to mix the batter or clean the dishes. No one likes to be stuck doing the dirty work so mix it up!

Okay! With that all said, our next meeting will most likely be on Wednesday, October 8. [It could change so please check your emails for updates!] On that day, we'll show you how to make snickerdoodle cookies! The following week, we'll have you paid members out there come in and try it out yourself!

One last thing, if you didn't come on Thursday, it's no big! You can still join the club! And if you didn't pay on Thursday but you want to be a paid member, just bring it in our next meeting!

Alrighty! That is all for today. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! Thanks again for taking your time to read this super long message. Until next time~!
